A 74-year old woman crashed through a convenience store and then got out of the car and tried to purchase a six-pack of beer.
Lynn Rice, of Norwalk, went for a drive yesterday evening ending in her driving halfway through Joe's Food Mart and Video of Los Angeles County. According to the store owner, Joe Awada, Rice got out of the car, walked over to the cooler and pulled out a six-pack of Budweiser beer after the crash. A cashier working at the time then refused her the six-pack and proceeded to call the police.
Lt. Jenny Han of the police department said Rice was taken to a hospital for an examination because she had a medical condition. Rice was also arrested for investigation of misdemeanor driving under the influence. She was released on $15,000bail, authorities said.

Instead of telling me what kind of story this is, just tell me what happened. (This kind of lead could work for a feature story, but not for a news story.)
ReplyDeleteYou can still have some fun with this lead. Why not say she crashed her car through the window of a Norwalk convenience store, then got out and tried to buy a six-pack of beer?
* Keep your paragraphs short
* A cashier refused to sell her the six-pack, not Awada -- that's a fact error
* Provide Lt. Han's full name
* Fix a couple typos in the last two sentences
0/15 - fact error, please revise
